The Rotaract Club of Chunnakam, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage, successfully completed the “Pedals of Hope” project, a vital initiative aimed at empowering schoolchildren in the Jaffna District. Recognizing that limited or unaffordable transportation facilities create significant barriers to education, the clubs donated 30 bicycles to deserving students across two selected locations. This project was a practical solution to a pressing need, directly supporting basic Education and Literacy by ensuring students can get to school easily, which helps reduce dropout risks and improves their overall academic journey.
Beyond just providing a means of transport, “Pedals of Hope” had a lasting positive impact on the community. It reduced the financial burden on families by eliminating daily travel costs, contributing to Economic and Community Development. Additionally, it promoted cycling as a healthy mode of transport, encouraging physical activity and supporting the well-being of the students. The project also contributed to Supporting the Environment by reducing dependency on motorized vehicles.
