The Rotaract Club of Chunnakam successfully organized a two-day district-level chess competition titled “War of Wits” on 1st and 2nd November 2025 for the Jaffna District, with over 300 participants. While primarily focused on school students, the event also introduced an Open Category to encourage inclusive participation from chess enthusiasts of all ages. The competition aimed to promote strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, sportsmanship, and healthy competition, while also serving as a fundraising initiative to support the club’s future community and educational projects. The prize-giving ceremony recognized outstanding performers, and the project aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by fostering intellectual growth and mental well-being, while strengthening the club’s engagement and visibility within the community. Objectives To promote strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and intellectual development through competitive chess. To provide an inclusive platform for both school students and open-category participants across the Jaffna District. To encourage sportsmanship, discipline, and healthy competition among participants. To raise funds to support the Rotaract Club of Chunnakam’s future community and educational service initiatives. Out Comes Over 300 participants from different age groups actively engaged in a competitive and intellectually stimulating environment. Identified and encouraged emerging chess talents across the Jaffna District, including both students and open-category players. Strengthened collaboration and relationships between the club, schools, parents, and the wider community. Successfully generated funds to support upcoming community and educational service projects of the Rotaract Club of Chunnakam. Impact The “War of Wits” chess competition created a meaningful platform for over 300 participants to showcase their talents while enhancing critical thinking and mental focus.
